The name comes from the fact that allspice has the aroma and flavour of a mixture of cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg.
The berries look like large peppercorns and they are used in many Caribbean dishes.
Ripe allspice berries are used in Pimento liqueur and the dried berries are ground to a powder and often used in baking or for seasoning meats.
