 Susie’s
Hot Sauce is a true 'cottage industry' story, established
in 1960 by Antiguan born and bred, Susannah Tonge. Susie or
'Aunt Susie' as she is affectionately known was famous for
constantly experimenting with new recipes and testing the
results on friends and family. The end products speak for
themselves, Susie's sauces are now multiple award winners
worldwide and 'Aunt Susie' the pride of Antigua.
Since the early days, when the operation was run out of Susie's
home, the business has grown to accommodate the demand both
from home and most importantly from abroad. The business is
now run by a team headed by Susie's daughter, Rosemarie “Rosie”
McMaster as Managing Director.
In 2009 Susie’s Hot Sauce Company enjoyed a landmark
even as their contribution was recognised in the Queen Elizabeth
II’s Birthday Honours List. “Rosie” McMaster
received the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her contributions
in public service, and was the only Antiguan and Barbudan
to have obtained the award in 2009. “I am really happy,”
she said. “I serve people very well and I share this
with my mother Susanah R. Tonge.” Acknowledging that
the popular condiment company was the brainchild of her late
mother, Rosie places the honour in her memory. She also gives
accolades to her family, friends and dedicated staff who have
helped her to achieve the award.
